Photo Session

Today I had a photo session with a sweet little 6 month old and with a spring/Easter theme of course the bunnies were included. They did great!
For these next two, I have to include a commentary...LOL Kid: "You want me to do what?" Bun: "I'm not doing it."
Kid: "I don't want to do that!" Bun: "Ya'll better listen to her!!"
Just the buns:

Exciting changes to come in April

I've been making some strong cuts here in the rabbitry and have decided to purchase a very nice buck coming all the way from California. He will be my birthday AND Christmas present. I can't wait to introduce him! Meanwhile, BOJ 57 will be leaving me to help out a new breeder in AR. He has been a special boy for me but its time to take a different path type wise. Still plan to cross him with one more doe before he leaves though. Merri will be leaving me also, she's a sweetheart and I know she will be a great doe for her new owner.

Babies are growing and it won't be long before decisions are made on which ones will be available. So far, one CUTE little sport buck is available when he's weaned.

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

What a deal!

Well at 15 holes, I was pretty satisfied with the size of my rabbitry...until I saw one heck of a deal today. A 12 hole stacker for $75! I couldn't pass it up and instead of 12 holes, I'm going to take the dividers out and make it an 8 hole because I think the 12 hole option is too small for my little guys. Yay! Now to figure out where to put it...:-)

Amelia had 3 banded beauties early this morning. That brings the show baby count to 10! What a blessing!

Sure hope my current juniors stay nice...I feel the uglies coming on already!

This is Vinny...too bad he has a mental illness(he is OCD for pulling out his hair-his neck is bald and raw). Would have made a lovely show rabbit:

Valentino...ignore the ugly body, he is much nicer just wouldn't pose so I gave up. LOL

Spring Babies

Spring is here and the baby bunnies are arriving! Jordan had 2 banded beauties last night before 10pm. She did great, babies are doing well and already fed.

Merri's babies are doing well, its looking like my cute little sport is not a doe but a buck! He'll make someone a special pet. <3 Lovely markings on that little guy.

Lucy's girls are little beauties! I will be keeping one and the other will be sent back to her breeder. Thank you Shelley!

One left to kindle this month, Amelia dear, its all up to you now!

Happy Spring everyone!

A New Visitor

We have a new visitor in the barn this week and next, its one of my babies from last summer! My has she grown...she's a gorgeous solid, wide girl with the nicest full hindquarters I've ever produced! Wow! I am so thankful her owner is allowing her to have a litter. I'm very excited about this cross. Meet Pearl...

Here she is with her sister/littermate, Aviva...Pearl wasn't sure of her being so close. She sure didn't mind Cruise being too close. LOL

Merri's babies are growing! This is the little sport doe, isn't she cute?! Looks like a tornado on her head.

A successful day after a rough beginning

Whew! Finally after 12 hours of when I wanted to write this post, I'm able to sit down and take a break. This morning I woke up to a very distressed bun on the cam. Merri was rolling in her nestbox and breathing with her nose up to the ceiling. It was apparent she was in some pain but yet showed no signs of contractions. I watched her for about half an hour before deciding it was best to go back and get some more sleep. Another hour passed and I feared the babies were already dead with her being in labor for so long and as stressed out as she was. ....well she surprised me and had 4 healthy babies at about 6:30am. 3 banded babies and 1 sport! I have to say I was pretty impressed she was able to kindle without complications especially with her being a first time mom.

All in all, the day was a success with 4 healthy babies and a healthy mom.

Lucy's babies are getting fatter and growing some hair! So proud of my first time moms, they got it right the first time!

Curb Appeal

With the nice weather these past couple of days, I was able to get out and give the barn some 'curb appeal'...lol, really just make it look a little better with some landscaping.

My husband made some brick steps and I planted some beautiful pink Indian hawthorns along with some more daylillies.

Our little container garden is growing well too thanks to some 'bunny gold', I'm definitely going to start utilizing all of the litter/waste in the flower beds, the plants love it!

Merri is on the cam this weekend! Hare Stare starts again. :-D I love my cam, I catch the girls go into labor and this one will need some monitoring...Merri's mom was a bad mother, hoping she didn't take after her. She's Huge! Can't wait to see how she does as this is her first litter.

Lucy's babies, both does, Maddie and Chloe...

New Sign!

I just want to give a shout out to Darlene Head (http://customsignsbydarlene.yolasite.com/) as she does amazing hand painted signs! My new sign is gorgeous and I plan to hang it in our barn and take to shows(to hang on the show table). I love it!

Cruise is one of the buns painted on the sign. See him?

All my keepers (for now) are growing up! 2 bucks and a doe...

Nail Clipping Video

Here is how we clip nails with our rabbits. There is a lot of controversy about grabbing the scruff of the neck...I think it is fine as long as you do not *hold* or *carry* the rabbit by the scruff of the neck without support. As you see in the video, her weight is supported the whole time. It's best to have a good hold on them than for them to freak out and kick, twist, or bite you while you're clipping.:-)

Lazy day

It's a lazy day here in the barn, the cold front has the babies huddled together and the rest of the buns are loafing. Loafing is where they tuck their front feet under their body and look like a loaf of bread. Its a sign of a relaxed bun. :-)

Babies in Cage 1:

Babies in Cage 2:

My keepers for now, going to let them grow a bit:

Valentino saying, I'm not posing and you're not making me...such a buck already!

Jr. Buck:

Jr. Doe:

Last but not least, it looks like Aviva's full blood sister will be a momma pretty soon! Although she'll need a date with Cruise before the baby announcements can commence.;-) LOL I'm so excited to possibly be getting a baby from this cross if all goes well. It will be a really neat experience for my sweet friend and her bunny.

Cruise being uncooperative today mostly because he would like a girlfriend. He's such a cutie:

Bunny Nest....check!

Miss Lucy has made a beautiful nest, I even watched her line it with fur last night on the cam(most does don't pull fur until they are in labor, she's an early bird I guess). After a few hours of taking it all out and re-arranging she finally got it right and fixed her nest in the nestbox.

Another pic of Valentino...I'm seeing a similarity between him and his daddy...that lovely rounded head! :-D
