Posing a Dwarf Hotot video

I made a quick video on how I pose my Dwarf Hotots, please note that I say in the video that the standard says the head is in a normal position...sorry, I re-read the standard and I couldn't find where it says anything about posing. The current DR magazine addresses the posing of our breed and it should be midline. Not like a dwarf or squashed like a Mini Rex, but in the middle.

Pictures

We have a lot going on at the barn but here lately, its just been survival mode from day to day with this heat wave we're having. Temps are well above the 100+ range and all I can do is lock down the barn and watch the temp. remote keep me updated on the temperature in the barn. So ready for fall!

Buddy just hanging out near the door. He has really warmed up to me, when I first got him he would thump and run frantically around his cage. Now he comes to me for pats.

Baby girls! One is going to be leaving me soon, the others are going to be evaluated in a couple of weeks.

Holly had her litter on the 26th, unfortunately all were peanuts except one and that little one is a doe. She is fostered to Amelia's litter now. The sport was trampled, I'm afraid the bad storm that blew through that morning that had very close lightning strikes is what caused her to do that. :-( The others seem fine and healthy.

My old man, not feeling his oats lately, the Ivermec is really hard on him. He goes off feed/water for about a day or two after being dosed (smaller than pea size). Ugh, my DH just do not tolerate Ivermectin at all.

Abby is really wanting to be a momma!

Nestbox goes in Monday, she doesn't want to wait :-)

Babies!

Amelia had 5 cuties, one was a peanut though. She has 3 banded and 1 sport. Been so busy, haven't even thought about checking genders. Will have to do that today. Holly is due tomorrow, she's really big. Hoping for the best!

I have four buns are leaving me this weekend, they are some of my really nice bucks, I hope they do well for their new owners. I'm trying to cut down to just 2 main bucks and go from there.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Induction Pics

Took some induction pics, just because I really don't want to deal with it tomorrow. None of them were happy about it, especially Pearl. >_< She is a talker!

New buns, new direction!

So my new bunnies arrived yesterday and I just love them! After comparing them to my own stock, I see some major changes that need to be made. The lack of roundess in the heads and longer ears need to be addressed. Its getting to where I'm getting nice bodies on my babies but the head and ears just aren't there. So I plan on selling a few that don't meet my standards of a good head/ear although they have amazing bodies, and just go from there.

Pearl! She is a bit fiesty and a squeaker...I definitely see some attitude in her future, we'll get along though.

FINALLY a rabbit in my barn with 1.75" ears!

My new baby buck, he's very young but so promising! Love the thick eyebands and head/ears(less than 2" as well). Has an awesome body but needs to grow. He's half blue banded/black banded. So I may get some blue babies out of this guy.

TJ, my new brood doe, she's just barely 12 weeks and look at that head! Ears are long but her head and body make up for that for now. Not flat or snippy in the muzzle here!
Amelia ready to have her last litter with me. She is such a good momma and her baby buck, Muffin, is looking mighty fine right now. :-)

It's a baby doe explosion!

Oh so cute!
My garden is growing too! Those squash leaves are as big as my head!!
Watermelon is taking over the garden, ack!

Brown Hotots

My beautiful white buns are no more. :-( I went ahead and got some Diatomaceous Earth to give everyone a 'powder bath' in due to XEO's mite problem. So now they all look like they rolled in a sand pit. LOL Oh well...this shall pass...

Listrophorus gibbus-type of fur mite

Well, well, well, my favorite buck who has had brown specks throughout his fur finally got a diagnosis thanks to my daughter's birthday present. LOL She got her very own microscope that takes pictures and video. Very fancy! Of course momma wanted to borrow it to see what was going on and oh was it icky.

So what does he have? Its called Listrophorus gibbus, an uncommon type of fur mite. Rabbits are asymptomatic, it doesn't cause itching or fur loss, the only sign is tiny brown flecks on the fur shaft, they are so tiny. It looks like dust/dirt on the fur. Treatment is Ivermec x3 every 10 days and I am picking up some  diatemaceous earth to give him a bath in. None of my others have this so I am hesitant to give such a powerful med like Ivermectin as a 'preventative' so they will all get a DE bath instead.

Definitely what he has! Listrophorus gibbus

Pineapple...what a treat!

My mother-in-law just arrived back from western Maui, Hawaii and had fresh pineapple harvested this past Tuesday to bring back to the states. After mentioning how rabbits love fresh pineapple, she bought them their very own! Lucky buns! Don't worry they only got a small chunk and their slaves, enjoyed the rest of it. :-) SO sweet! Doesn't taste like what's in the stores, that's for sure.
Yum! It was so sweet!

Lucy approves!

Holly was the only one that would literally swallow it whole.

She got an extra one!
Hay from California, Pinapple from Maui....what's next!?! Spoiled rotten buns!

Countdown and happieness!

Counting down the days until my new babies arrive. Really can't wait to see them!

Also, for those of you who don't have facebook, here's a short little video of the kids playing with the babies... makes me smile.

Gardening the eden way :-)

Just want to say, that if you garden, you should really watch the documentary backtoedenfilm.com. It changed my view on gardening and I can't Believe how EASY it is and how much more enjoyable spending time in the garden is. We don't water, no tilling, and minimal weeding is needed. Wish I had a wood chipper and I would expand this year but over the winter we will work on it.
Huge leaves!

Watermelon!

Pull the mulch back and the soil is so moist!
The buns are doing good, not wowed by my juniors but I'm going to hold onto them anyway this time.

Austin disapproving....of something....he always has a mad look.

One of the girls! They're growing so fast!

My new stacker in progress! Its so EASY to make them, really thinking about doing another! Just waiting on my dividers, urine guards and door latches.

Rain, new buns on the way, and growing babies...can't get much better than that!!

Ok, that was a long title. LOL I am just SO excited, wow what a blessing it is to have great people in a hobby that are willing to help others. Two very sweet breeders are giving me these rabbits out of the kindness of their hearts! I plan to pay them back with a nice little baby for each this fall. Also a friend of mine is going to a show in WI tomorrow to pick the trio up and will be coming to TX on the 20th...right by my house pretty much. So I have three beautiful new bunnies on the way! I don't have pictures to share, yet, but here's a quick one of one of the new does:

Meet miss Pearl....(Kate-now I have a Pearl of my own-yippeee!!)
Something else I'm excited about is RAIN!!! Finally cooler temps and relief from the humid heat. Storms are in the forecast for the next 10 days. Makes me want to bake a cake and celebrate!

Growing the 'Back to Eden' way...watermelon thriving!

Lucy's babies are growing!! All does still-yay!

The three amigos!
And I now have one itty bitty problem....can anyone see what it is??

Time to build more cages for my convention sales buns-I need their space! On the to-do list today.

I need a bigger barn...

Yes, I admit it, I should have splurged and bought a bigger barn.UGH. Lol! Well I'll just have to cull/sell some that I would for sure keep if I had the room. Maybe when we move out of this neighborhood I can expand finally!
Jennie has been retired to a brood doe. I just don't think she has the head/ear to compete at convention but oh does she have a body!

Hope she'll have nice babies. She is bred to Vinny for a litter due in Aug.

5 little show girls growing up so fast!

My co-partner doing her daily handling.

Her and Boss have a connection, he's so still when she pets him.

Putting him to sleep. <3
