Strict Culling

I lost the babies yesterday. I found one out of the box that was too cold to save and the other was too weak to feed. My husband graciously and humanely put them down. :-( It just wasn't meant to be, I gave them the best chance I could and that's all you really can do.

I was going through my breeding records and found it so interesting to look at the statistics in my barn this year.

Here's the breakdown:

Babies Born: 39
Babies Sillborn or died: 15

Had 14 bucks, 10 does
In total there were 24 live babies born and raised this year.
....only 4 keepers!!

I still have one more litter to go before the official totals but wow. 24 babies I've raised?! Strict culling measures have helped the quality in my herd tremendously. As a breeder striving to meet the standard, you have to be hard on them, you'll never get anywhere if you don't.
