I'm getting to see some pictures of all the new woolies being brought here in my area. They are BREATHTAKING!! Three breeders near me have brought in new stock and I have to honestly say, I feel like my rabbits are the culls and worthless.:-(
So, I got to thinking, why do I raise rabbits? If it's to win, then it's the wrong intention. There will *always* be someone with a better rabbit. My rabbit may loose today, win tomorrow and loose next week. It's all a judge's opinion on that day. Sure, winning is nice and something to strive for but if we don't enjoy our bunnies we'll never have successes in our own herd. So it may be that we're the underdog now, but what I've got to work on, is focusing on OUR herd. Not look at anyone elses but ours. I'm still starting out, it's easy to get discouraged seeing everyone else jump ahead in their breeding program. One day, just one day, we'll have some quality animals to compete with and most of all, a herd I'm pleased to call my own.;-)
Congratulations to EVERYONE that did so well at Convention!!
All my bunnies will get some extra oats today, I love them to pieces and have been my oasis in the desert of life. Thank You Lord for giving me these little fluffy 'de-stressors'! May November be a Great month!

The problem with mortals is that we are always looking too hard for external affirmation. We doubt ourselves and even our own pets. You are absolutely right, our pets will always be the best in our eyes and why let another fellow human being judge what you love?
I like to separate technicalities from true values. You can go through all the technicalities of how the rabbit's ears are placed and what not, but at the end of the day it is LOVE that rises above the rest.
Cull, Pet, Brood or Show quality just cannot justify how much we love our bunnies. So what if they are ugly? They are at the end of the day another live form that needs our care and love.
We all love our pets all the same.
So, personally, I would go for LOVE first and technicalities secondary. And mother nature blesses us with many different combination of rabbits just like how humans are to add color in our lives.
So as long that we breed towards the standard with the standard as mere "guidelines" we're giving our rabbits due justice.
