Well we had our first tattoo accident today. London, one of my upcoming jr show does was being tattoo'ed today along with her sisters when she broke her leg during the clamping process. She was wrapped and then clamped quickly. No squealing or any outward sign there was a problem. So I re-touched her tattoo with the pen and took her back to her cage. As soon as I set her down, she didn't move. I put some hay in and she then started falling and flailing around her cage. She was holding up her hind leg and refused to put weight on it. Bummer!! I then knew then she broke it during the tattooing session. Ugh. Such a nice doe too. So, she is now in a carrier and will be in it for at least 2 weeks or more. She needs to be confined so that it can heal and not be stressed any more than it is.

Before the accident-pic taken when she was 6 weeks. She was one of my convention hopefuls. :-( |

Will it grow back right? Do you think she'll be showable? She is pretty. I've heard of some horror stories, and because of that I am on top of my rabbits when I tattoo.
At least you can breed her when she's well.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that. :-( Will she still be showable? She's beautiful!
I don't know what her fate will be. :-( I guess it will depend on how she heals. I was told 3-4 weeks in the carrier to ensure proper healing, much like a cast on her leg. If she doesn't use it after the bone is calcified then she could develop sores that can get infected and be painful. If it does heal back to where she can use it then she may be showable. I'm just hoping her muscle development won't be affected too much. Such a shame, I had high hopes for her. :-(
I actually have a doe that bucked out of my arms. I am extremely careful, but you can't avoid everything. I reset her leg and it has been wrapped up for three weeks. It was a pretty severe break. From what I read it can take up to 8 weeks to heal. With it being "casted", I have not limited her mobility except to her cage. She is using the leg... So I have high hopes.
