Oh what a year!

This month officially marks the 1 year anniversary of our rabbitry and oh what a year it has been! I could go on and on about our struggles getting into this breed but its in the past and I'd rather leave it there. Despite the setbacks, it is the love of raising rabbits, meeting new people, and the challenge of this breed that keep me going.

To be honest I almost just wanted to give up on this breed as my beautiful show babies develop spots and eye spots...it seems like there has been hardly any progress at all in developing a nice line of my own. After talking with a fellow DH breeder, Lanae, she reminded me that getting nice show animals may not happen in a year or even two years, more like five or more years is when one should start to be a little more established than where I am at this point. Reflecting on the animals I started with to what I am working on now is a stark difference and one I hope to continue to improve upon as each year goes by.
Just starting out!

Present day-new floor and casters!

We have Grown!
What I started with....EEK!!
My first litter.....EEEK!!

I culled/pet out the above rabbits and had to start over mid year...it has taken a LOT of strict culling to get better animals and is a continual process. I am no where near I should be.
I'm trying to get away from this look, its hard when your foundation stock had these same characteristics. I'm working on it though.

Need to get better heads and short, thick ears.

My latest baby....let's go another year! No quitting!
The one thing that hasn't changed is our love for this crazy and challenging breed. <3

Wow, Lindsey! When you line up your pictures like that it does show how far you've come! Congratulations! I am glad you take the time to work with this breed. I have always loved those little guys and I am learning so much from you. If I ever go "non-Angora", I'll go dwarf hotot lol...because of reading your blog.

WOW, you have come a long way! Congrats on your anniversary! Good for you for sticking it out... it's encouraging to see all the progress you've made, gives me hope! :) (Yes, I'm trying to get rid of those long-eared long-bodied ones, too.) :) Congrats!
