Ever wondered how much it costs to start up a rabbitry? Some of you may be all too familiar with start up and maintenance costs. Generally breeders are not into raising rabbits for money, I certainly am not and by breaking down the costs its clear I'm actually loosing money. This is my hobby so I don't really look at it that way and at the end of the day hearing bunnies munch on their hay, watching their antics, and getting muzzle kisses makes it all worth it.
Note that start up costs and foundation stock costs vary drastically, here is a general estimate on what my rabbitry has cost me...brace yourself...I know I did.
Start up costs:
8x10 insulated barn: $2300
Air Conditioner: $150
Cages(15 holes) and dura-pans/castors: $725
Water bottles: $75
Feeders: $38
Rest pads/toys: $35
Grooming table/supplies/scale: $40
(4) carriers: $130
Crocks for carriers: $30
Misc.(trash bins/binder/shelving): $50
Foundation stock:
Bucks(3): $500
Does (9): $730
Monthly Maintenance:
Feed: $14
Shavings: $6.50
Papers: free
Grand total: $4803...(!!)
Monthly fees: $20.50 ($246 per year)

LOL! Yeah, that looks just like my income (or lack of) statement...a super rewarding hobby, though.
This is so interesting. It does add up fast doesn't it? The video is a perfect example of why it's all worth it=)
I did one of these years ago about how you don't "make" money with rabbits- especially not your get rich quick bunny mill breeders! It hurts doesn't it? LOL
ugh I tried listing my costs and after a while I couldn't bear it so I gave up. lol
Anyone who thinks they can make a profit raising rabbits is in for a huge surprise.
Exactly ladies! LOL I would list my profit for this month...but I don't have any yet. ;-)
