Survey time!

I've come up with a survey(actually a repost from last year) that I'm curious to know some of the answers from my bunny friends...so if you'd like to, please post your answers in your blog.;-)

1. How did you deceide the name for your rabbitry?
Well, honestly I'm not that creative when it comes to thinking of names off the top of my head. I think the first one I thought of was Silver Starr Rabbitry but quickly learned that another person had the name. So since there is 4 of us in our family(last name King), and it's likely that our kids will show one day- it was only logical to go with 4 Kings Rabbitry. The rest is history!

2. Youth or Open?
Open right now, my kids are 4 and 2 so we have a few years before the interest in showing is there. They both are big helppers at feeding time, however it's mommy's job to clean the "stinky poo poo" as my 4 yr old states.

3. How long have you owned rabbits?
I showed heavily as a youth in 1998 to 2001. My rabbitry was 'Lil Angel Hotots' and I was dedicated to Dwarf Hotots. College came after graduation, then marriage and now the interest in having my Hotots again has sparked!

4. What's the biggest win you've had so far(not that winning is everything!)?
Well, I haven't shown since 2001 as a youth, but during those 3 years we won BOB at Houston/Ft Worth stock shows and one of my 'home grown' jr bucks took 1st in a large class at the DH Nationals! I was beaming from ear to ear.

5. What's the most embarrassing or 'Ah Ha' moment with rasing rabbits?
Oh goodness. I would have to say it was at the Houston Livestock show back in 2001...a nice couple were asking about the Dwarf Hotot breed and I was more than happy to take a few minutes to talk to them about my bunnies and show them how they should be posed for show, ect. Well I deceided to take out a little Jr buck that was sooo sweet and put him on my grooming table. This was a coop show and mind you this little guy had never been away from home before. Well, I told them with a smile how wonderfully tempered this breed was and I had never had a mean Hotot(you see where this is leading!). As soon as I finished my sentence that buck latched onto my forearm and would NOT let go!! I *still* have a pretty bad scar today from that incident. What was this little 'sweet' buck's name you ask? It was Rambo, little did I know, he would live up to his name! LOL

6. How did you deceide what breed to raise?
I have always loved the hotots. I don't know what draws my interest to them...maybe those big bold eyes.;-) We have limited space so I always knew that the smaller breeds would be our only option.

7. What is your current 'set up' and how many cages?
Right now we have 7 holes. I'm really hoping to add about 14 more to make a total of 21. I think 21 is the perfect number for us-it was more than that but remember quality is more important than quantity.

8. What's your short term goal (now to June 2009)?
I would like to find our foundation stock. Have a litter or two, and give a class demo on rabbits and how to properly care for them at my daughter's school. We've already been invited back to do so and I can't wait!

9. Long term goal?
To use my hobby of rabbit raising to minister to others about Jesus Christ. I feel so blessed that God has given me the opportunity to care for these wonderful creatures and the shows are a perfect place to meet new people. I hope to bless others as I have been blessed.

10. Anything else we need to know?
I'm a full-time nursing student and will be getting my RN license this coming May!!! We're going to have some life changes this year... God's got a plan, I can't wait to see what unfolds.

Now it's YOUR turn to be interviewed!! :-)

Okay. :)

1. Well, because I have Mini Rex, I wanted to use "mini" in it, and I always loved their paws (haha, i know, weird) so it ended in Mini Paws Rabbitry

2. Youth. ;)

3. I had a rabbit when I was 5, and then got new rabbits in 2007

4. Never showed, planning to.

5. I was on the phone with my friend telling her how sweet and gentle Isis (one of my mixed/unknown) was, and she bit me right on the leg. I don't blame her, she was just turning 6 months, and I guess she was just horomonal or something.

6. I was looking for a rabbit in 07, and I had no idea what I was looking for, except that I wanted a sweet bunny. I went to a dog show run by a 4-H club and the leaders daughter had 2 little bunnies on auction. One Jersey Woolie and a Black Mini Rex. I felt the little MR, and it was the softest thing I had ever felt, and I knew that this was the one. :)

7. Hutches. I have 4 hutches, but ones a 2 story 2 hole.

8. Have a litter from Sugar. :)

9. To have bunnies for as long as possible.

10. Um... I have 5 siblings? (3 half, 2 step, one full) lol

1. I strongly believe that "MAN DOES NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT...". Similarly t, I believe that pets will not thrive/blossom living on food and water alone. They need tender LOVING care too, unconditional LOVE so therefore, True Love.

2. I guess it would be OPEN since I am not a youth. That's if we have shows here.

3. Purebreds, since 2006. Mongrels, since I was 8 years old.

4. As we do not have shows here, I take it that everyday is a big win for me because I know my rabbits are well taken care of.

5. I couldn't recognize Broken Siamese Sable from Broken Blue. Total color blindness! LOL!

6. The first time I saw a few Holland Lops with the "bulldoggish" outlook, I decided to work with this breed exclusively.

7. 6 holes could go up to 12. Would like to go for 14!

8. Revamp the herd for the first time.

9. Would like to attend an ARBA convention and meet all the people that I have the honor to befriend with through the internet. I would like to give them a hug personally and thank them for being such great inspirations to me!

10. I hope to meet more bunny people to share this passion.

1. How did you deceide the name for your rabbitry?
I wanted a rabbitry name that had a neat abbreviation and I'm in to words and puns. So I figured Ali's Bunny Crossing fit the bill. It's pretty self explantory, it's abbreviation is ABC and it could mean that I cross rabbits as in breeding or as in a train crossing. *shrug* not the best, but I'm happy with it. =D

2. Youth or Open?
Youth for ND and Open for AFL. I'm the only youth AFL breeder at any of the shows I go to but I prefer to show in youth when I can.

3. How long have you owned rabbits?
2006 when I got my first pet <3

4. What's the biggest win you've had so far(not that winning is everything!)?
BOB for AFL or BIS at the 4-H fair in 2007

5. What's the most embarrassing or 'Ah Ha' moment with rasing rabbits?
I can't think of anything. It's kinda disappointing actually.

6. How did you decide what breed to raise?
ND always appealed to me with their chunky faces and tiny ears and AFL just have the whole chunky but with fluff thing down too! and those lop ears! to be perfectly honest though, there's very few breeds I wouldn't raise given the chance.

7. What is your current 'set up' and how many cages?
A powered shed in my backyard with 21 cages.

8. What's your short term goal (now to June 2009)?
Have a live litter of AFL and BEW NDs

9. Long term goal?
To see at least 5 homegrown rabbits in my barn (That I'm keeping for showing) as well as the things listed in my blog post about resolutions.

10. Anything else we need to know?
nope!
